Bali, Denpasar – A strong earthquake hit the neighbouring island of Lombok at 18.46 PM local time, Sunday, 5 August 2018, The 7,0 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 15 km north of Lombok near Loloan, causing strong tremors that were felt throughout all of Bali.
Bali remains relatively safe despite effects on 2 shopping malls and a cathedral in Denpasar and Kuta. 2 deaths was reported. Tsunami warning have been lifted although seismologist are continuing to monitor for potential tsunmi threats.
Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport operates as per normal. Minor damages were reported but the main infrastrukture, including runway, taxiway, and aport, remain intact. No tourists have been affected by the earthquake.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the extend of the damage resuling from the eathquake. Tourists and residents are urged to stay calm and not panic – Bali remains safe for tourists nad visitors.
