The seventh edition of the African continent’s premier B2B Luxury Travel Trade Show, International Luxury Travel Market Africa (ILTM Africa), opened its doors today and welcomed friends – both old and new – from around the globe.
Rashid Toefy, Deputy Director General at Western Cape Government Department of Economic Development and Tourism welcomed all attendees with an address entitled “Africa: Open for business”.
Following the opening, delegates kicked off their pre-scheduled appointments in an all new venue showcasing luxury décor and design curated specifically for the event. Attendees were invited to step outside and enjoy the acclaimed Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden’s views over a sumptuous, superfood-inspired lunch by moyo restaurant.
Lunch also afforded more ad-hoc meetings to take place and an opportunity to experience ILTM Africa’s partner pods situated on the floor. With 88% brand new buyers to ILTM Africa and 49% new to the ILTM portfolio, there has been non-stop action across the exhibition. Over 3700 pre-scheduled are now underway, as Buyers and Exhibitors connect showcasing some of the best luxury products that Africa has to offer.
Closing off an incredible day one, The Vineyard Hotel is hosting an opulent cocktail evening in the lush city suburb of Newlands. Contemporary and classy, one of Cape Town’s iconic properties is the ideal setting for guests to connect in a casual atmosphere with colleagues and the best of the travel industry.
Day 2 is almost all-business, with pre-scheduled appointments rolling out from 09:30 and a lunch break at the pristine Shimmy Beach Club, Cape Town’s premier lifestyle venue.
Megan Oberholzer, Portfolio General Manager: Travel, Tourism & Sports at Reed Exhibitions says that ITLM Africa 2019 highlights how Africa is primed for luxury tourism business. “We’ve already seen great synergies being formed over the first day of meetings – and we’re only just getting started,” she says. “The world is waking up to the fact that Africa is a genuine luxury travel contender, and we’re delighted to be driving that process here at #ILTMA”.
